First, let me say congratulations; nothing is more important than family. So, why does morning sickness start? It is similar to putting a pan of water on the stove and turning the flame to high. Even though you can’t see any change you know that something is going on. You know that the temperature of the water is changing rapidly. Substitute the temperature for your hormones. The amount of work required to prepare your body to welcome new life is in a word, remarkable.

The two hormones involved are estrogen and progesterone. The energy required to support the production of these two hormones is unreal. For example, some of the initial tasks performed by mother and baby include preparing the uterus to receive the placenta, while simultaneously the embryo begins to develop the reproductive system.

The body simply can’t keep the necessary amount of energy, glucose, readily available to supply what the body needs. Naturally the blood sugar will have a tendency to bottom out at times. The relationship between low blood sugar and nausea is well documented, mostly through studies associated with diabetes.

As with the pan of boiling water once it begins to boil the temperature can’t go any higher. Likewise, as the amount of hormones in your system becomes more in line with the levels required; the energy demands tend to decline and with it the nausea, in theory. Alright that’s all for now, I’m going to get back to work and find some more info for ya.
